Acid Attack Survivor Kafi Scores 95.6% in CBSE Class 12, Aspires to Become IAS Officer

In an inspiring testament to resilience and determination, 17-year-old Kafi from Hisar, Haryana, has achieved an outstanding 95.6% in the CBSE Class 12 examinations. Blinded in a tragic acid attack at the age of three, Kafi's journey from trauma to academic excellence has captivated the nation.
In 2011, during the festival of Holi, Kafi was attacked with acid by three neighbors in Hisar, leaving her blind. Her parents, Pawan and his wife, spent over six years and approximately ₹20 lakh on treatments across various hospitals, including AIIMS Delhi, in hopes of restoring her vision. Despite their relentless efforts, doctors confirmed that her eyesight could not be regained.
Undeterred, Kafi began her formal education at the age of eight in Hisar. Recognizing the need for specialized support, her family relocated to Chandigarh, where she enrolled at the Institute for the Blind in Sector 26. There, she utilized audio books and assistive technologies to aid her studies, showcasing remarkable academic prowess.
Kafi's dedication bore fruit when she scored 95.2% in her Class 10 board exams. Continuing her streak of excellence, she achieved 95.6% in the Class 12 humanities stream, securing full marks in subjects like History, Political Science, Geography, and Painting, and a near-perfect score in English .
With dreams of joining the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Kafi aims to pursue a degree in Political Science from Delhi University. She attributes her success to the unwavering support of her parents and teachers. "My parents have been my support system and inspiration. The way they have sacrificed for me, I just want to pay them back," she shared .
Addressing her peers, Kafi emphasized the importance of hard work and humility over distractions like social media. "Social media and other things are not going to decide our future; we have to do hard work. We will have to be humble and good human beings," she advised
