Manipur CM Visits Jiribam, Urges Peace and Development
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited Jiribam district on 11 February 2026 as part of a peace-building outreach to communities affected by ethnic violence in the state. This was his first official trip outside Imphal since taking office on 4 February 2026.

During the visit, the Chief Minister met with internally displaced persons (IDPs) from both the Meitei and Hmar (Kuki-Zo) communities housed in relief camps, including one at the Jiribam Higher Secondary School and another at Kalinagar. He appealed for community unity, encouraged people to “forget the nightmare of the past two years,” and urged collective focus on rebuilding peaceful coexistence and local development.

Khemchand highlighted Jiribam’s strategic importance as the “gateway to Manipur” and said it has the potential to become a major business hub comparable to Mumbai’s role in India’s economy,” but stressed that peace is essential for economic growth. He also interacted with villagers in Jarolpokpi Hmar village and Mongbung Meitei village, where residents expressed support for government efforts and asked for infrastructure improvements.

The Chief Minister said the district administration is addressing IDP concerns and that permanent housing for displaced families is under construction and expected to be completed by March. He reaffirmed his commitment to fostering unity across all communities in Manipur.
