Manipur Bids Farewell to BSF Constable Deepak Chingakham with Full State Honors
In a solemn ceremony marked by grief and pride, Manipur laid to rest BSF Constable Deepak Chingakham, who succumbed to injuries sustained during cross-border firing in the RS Pura sector of Jammu on May 11. The 25-year-old soldier from Yairipok Yambem Mathak Leikai in Imphal East District was accorded full state honors as his mortal remains arrived in Imphal on Tuesday.
A wreath-laying ceremony was held at Imphal Airport, attended by senior officials, political leaders, and members of the armed forces. The body was then transported to his native village, where the final rites were performed amidst an outpouring of emotions from family, friends, and fellow villagers.
Constable Chingakham, who joined the Border Security Force in April 2021, was the sole breadwinner of his family. His father, Chingakham Bonibihari Singh, expressed both sorrow and pride, stating, "We are really proud of his sacrifice."
Political leaders across party lines paid tribute to the fallen soldier. Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh described him as "a proud son of Manipur," highlighting his courage and devotion to the nation. BJP state president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi and Congress president Keisham Meghachandra also extended their condolences, acknowledging his supreme sacrifice.
